Road Trip

This past weekend was one we will never forget.    For starters, we drove 20hrs round trip to Nashville, TN last weekend to spend the weekend with family & see the newest addition, our sweet niece, Sadie.  She is precious!!  We had such a great time, and relished every moment with Nate, Brittany, Mimi, Papa, and all the cousins.

TORNADO WARNING MEMPHIS TN 1221 PM CDT MON JUN 13 2011  Yes, this was part of our trip as well.  So…moving right along to the crazy part!  On our way home, we were driving along with sunny weather.  Then, all of a sudden we see a big, dark wall-cloud coming our way.  Within a few minutes debris was flying through the air all around us.  As we were approaching the Mississippi river bridge, a transformer blows out above our car & next thing we know we see a dark funnel crossing the road right in front of us.  I get on the phone to let Josh’s parents know (they were driving home as well).  It was too late to pull off – we were already on the bridge.   Within about 15 seconds a huge wall of water, wind and hail hit our car.  Yep, we later find out we were right in the middle of a tornado.  Did I mention that we were 109’ above the water on the Mississippi river bridge??!! 

No warning.  No sirens.  Craziness. 

Our car was being shoved around the six lane bridge like a little toy car.  Water and wind was swirling around us and we couldn’t see a thing but the two little tail lights of the car in front of us.  As this was happening, I was tightening the boys’ car seat straps as tight as they could go, and still holding onto the phone with Linda (Josh’s mom) on the other line.  As you can imagine, we were both screaming out prayers (remember this part for later).  We’re so incredibly thankful that we are all alive.  What a story that will be to tell the boys one day!   

So, on to a lighter story…  As we’re driving on home, Hendrix asks, “Mommy, when you were talking on the phone with God, what did he say?”  Guess he was wondering what His reply was to all the praying on the phone call.  J 

If this wasn’t enough to top off the road trip, Hudson peed through his diaper and soaked his car seat, Hendrix had to go to the bathroom on the side of the road in the middle of who knows where, and then both boys throw up within 30 seconds of each other.  That’s right…Tornado.  Pee.  Poop.  Throw up.  Have I convinced any of you to take a road trip with your kids any time soon?  J
